Profile-Reyes-Ortega

I completed my Chemistry Bachelor degree, obtaining the Honors Bachelor Degree Award, in July 2007 at the University of Cordoba, Spain. In December 2007 I began working in the industry, as a Material Researcher, in ROVI Laboratories (Madrid, Spain). My role was the preparation of different injectable drug-polymer formulations for controlled DDS. In June 2008, I joined the Biomedical Research Network Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) where I was collaborating in the development of new hydrogels as DDS. These two research collaborations allowed me to obtain my Final Master Project titled Polymeric Controlled Drug Delivery Systems (University of Menéndez Pelayo). In September 2008, I was granted a 4 years predoctoral scholarship to work with the Biomaterials Group at the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (ICTP) from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), where I completed my PhD. During my PhD I completed 2 exchange visits, at the Polymer Group of Department of Chemical Engineering, at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh (PA, USA) supervised by Krzysztof Matyjaszewski and at Center of Advance Macromolecular Design of Chemical Engineering Department at New South Wales University, in Sydney (Australia) supervised for Prof. Martina Stenzel. In July 2013 I finished my PhD based in the preparation and development of biopolymers as nanoparticles, hydrogels and well-defined architectures for their application in tissue engineering and drug delivery systems, obtaining the Excellent Cum-Laude-International qualification. After completing my PhD, I continued working in the industry for 4 years: 2.5 years working as Scientific Consultant, in Tecnologias Avanzadas Inspiralia S.L., working in the technical development department on five different projects from 7th Framework European Program; and 1.5 years, in a international pharmaceutical company called Polyactiva, located at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne (Australia), working in the chemical analytical drugs department. Occuring at the same time, I collaborated as a Post-doctoral researcher with Prof. Tony Velkov and Jian Li, collaborating in the development of next generation antimicrobial pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics drugs to treat Cystic Fibrosis desease. In September 2016 I was granted with a postdoctoral fellowship (30 months) to join to the Applied Physic Department of Sciences Faculty in Granada University (Spain), researching in a project related to the development of non spherical magnetic nanoparticles for diagnosis and cancer treatment. In June 2020 I achieved another postdoctoral fellowship (36 months) to join the Visual Quality group from Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Córdoba (IMIBIC), where I am currently working in a Clinical Study (Phase I-II) related to the development of new corneal implants to be used as medical devices for patients who suffer from different visual disorders.
